The Denture Process

Creating your dentures takes several appointments to ensure the best possible fit and appearance.

First, we'll take detailed impressions of your mouth and measurements of your jaw. If any teeth need to be removed, we'll discuss the timeline and allow your gums to heal before proceeding.

Next, we'll create a model denture so you can see how your new smile will look and make sure the fit and color are exactly right. Once you're happy with the result, we'll fabricate your final dentures.

At your final appointment, we'll make any necessary adjustments to ensure your dentures are comfortable and secure. We'll also show you how to care for them and what to expect during the adjustment period.

Adjusting to Your New Dentures

It's normal to need a little time to get used to wearing dentures. Your mouth may feel full at first, and you might produce more saliva than usual. Speaking and eating may feel different for the first few days.

We recommend starting with soft foods and practicing speaking out loud at home. Most patients adjust within a few weeks and feel completely natural wearing their dentures.

If you experience sore spots or discomfort, please call us right away. Small adjustments can make a big difference in comfort, and we're here to help you through the process.

Caring for Your Dentures

Remove and rinse your dentures after eating, and brush them daily with a soft-bristle brush and denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste, which can be too abrasive). Soak them overnight in a denture solution to keep them moist and maintain their shape.

Even if you have full dentures, it's important to continue regular dental visits. We'll check the fit of your dentures, examine your gums and oral tissues, and make adjustments as needed. Your mouth changes over time, and dentures may need to be relined or replaced to maintain a proper fit.
